Qualifications

Overview

LLUK’s overview of standards and qualifications for the further education workforce outlines professional development requirements for managers, teachers, tutors and trainers, assessors, verifiers and learning support practitioners. Qualifications based on standards and qualifications that are being reviewed or developed for the first time will become available in future months. Courses based on standards and qualifications that have already been revised or fully developed are now available locally, regionally, nationally or online. A qualification may be given a different title in different institutions, even though it is based on the same standards. The university, college or other institution will be able to clarify the level and professional status of the qualification for you, if you find the differences between ‘Certificate’, ‘Diploma’ and even ‘Degree’ initially confusing.

The pages in this section give you links to current sources of information about where courses are run. Some continue to be delivered in conventional college term times every year, but you will find that universities, colleges and other providers increasingly offer flexible programmes to meet the changing needs of staff and their employers. Most courses now include some form of e-learning; some are largely online.

If you want information about which qualifications or training best meets the needs of particular members of staff, use the LLUK helpline, which is available for individuals and organisations: telephone 0300 303 1877, Monday–Friday 9am to 5.30pm, or email at advice@lluk.org.
