Secondments and work shadowing for professional development are widely used and valued in various sectors. In further education, current programmes support management roles, but some flexible funding may also be available for people in other roles.

According to the Institute for Learning (IfL)’s guidelines on continuing professional development (CPD), secondments, work shadowing and visits to other organisations and employers are valuable opportunities for teachers and trainers to update their professional knowledge.
