Overview

A number of national organisations represent local or regional further education sector employers. Some of these national organisations offer frameworks or resources for workforce development.

In addition, the Sector Skills Councils offer advice and information in various forms for employers, learning providers and individual staff. All the Sector Skills Councils are responsible for the development of National Occupational Standards on which qualifications at various levels are then based. Sector Skills Councils are particularly valuable for teachers of vocational subjects, who are expected to keep up to date with the skills, knowledge and qualifications required by employers. LLUK is itself the Sector Skills Council for people working in career guidance, community learning and development, further education, higher education, libraries, archives and information services and work-based learning.
