Review

In terms of the workforce development cycle, REVIEW means to look back. You monitor your workforce development activities to see if they went to plan. For the organisation, this stage can relate to all the themes in the Workforce Strategy journey.

REVIEW in the Workforce Development cycle
All learning providers are expected to have systems in place for reviewing workforce development plans as they go along. This is part of the self-assessment you undertake in preparation for external inspection. Reviewing the satisfaction of your two main customers – employers and learners – will also influence the internal and external processes of your organisation.

At the level of the organisation, continuous review or monitoring allows you to communicate with team members and other stakeholders about progress or problems, and to make adjustments to your plan. For individual staff members, the review process offers the opportunity to reflect on their practice and the extent to which they have developed. In job appraisals, the plans of the individual should complement those of the organisation. At this stage in the cycle, you review the design of plans in the light of your review of action. This helps you continue to the EVALUATE stage, where you judge the impact of the plans and so complete the workforce development cycle - only to start it again.

Starting to review your plans
Key processes that help you review workforce development are:
